Transform a simple piece of copper into a bold, sculptural cuff using fire, hammers and traditional metalsmithing tools.
You’ll be introduced to air chasing—a technique in which folded copper creates an air pocket that allows the metal to be forged into beautiful raised forms and organic textures. You’ll also learn foundational skills such as annealing, sawing, filing, texturing, shaping, patination and finishing.
Every cuff will be individually made, so no two pieces will be exactly alike. The pictured cuff is design inspiration; your finished piece will reflect your own hand and creative choices.
Your registration includes a professional Rio Grande Benchtop Basics Student Kit to take home—a value of approximately $66.
The kit includes essential beginner tools such as:
• Jeweler’s saw frame and saw blades
• Chasing hammer
• Jewelry pliers and cutters
• Needle files
• Ring clamp
• Drill bits
• Additional benchtop essentials
Copper, abrasives, finishing materials and use of shared studio equipment are also included.
